Air Quality Alert and Storm Chances for Minnesota; Cooler Weather Ahead
US · Published Jun 8, 2026
• An air quality alert is in effect for sensitive groups across the Twin Cities metro area and much of Minnesota until 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 7,
• The day will begin with clear skies and high pressure, but increasing humidity will push temperatures into the upper 80s°F (31°C). Storms are expected to develop in southern Minnesota during the afternoon and move northward later in the evening. Flash flooding is the primary concern with these storms. The unsettled weather pattern will persist into Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures in the low 80s°F (27°C) on Monday and heat indices reaching the mid-90s°F (35°C) on Tuesday. A cold front is expected to bring additional storms on Wednesday, followed by cooler and more seasonable conditions later in the week.

Why It's Important?

The air quality alert poses a risk to sensitive groups, including individuals with respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly. Flash flooding from evening storms could impact low-lying areas and disrupt travel. The potential for severe weather on Wednesday evening raises concerns for damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding. High humidity and elevated heat indices on Tuesday may also increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for those spending extended periods outdoors.
